Website privacy
This page covers oakstreetgames.com and the free Grandpa Runs Sidewalk Splat demo that plays on it. The iPhone and iPad app has its own privacy policy.
What we measure
To see whether people enjoy the demo and find the game, the site counts a few events: a page being opened, the demo starting, being replayed, being finished or ended by a knockout, and a click on an App Store link. Each event carries the page, a broad device type (phone, tablet or computer), the referring website’s name, any campaign tags in the link you followed (such as utm_campaign), and a random visit number that is kept only for your browser tab. We never collect your name, email address, precise location or anything you type.
A click on an App Store link is counted as a click only. We cannot see whether you install the app.
These counts are made with Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not involve Meta.
Facebook ad measurement with the Meta Pixel (only if you allow it)
We use Meta’s pixel to see whether our Facebook ads bring people to the demo and to the App Store. It runs only on oakstreetgames.com (and, while the site is being tested, oakstreetgames.vercel.app), and only after you choose “Allow”. Until then, and if you choose “No thanks”, Meta’s script is not even downloaded. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, the pixel stays off and we don’t ask.
When you allow it, the pixel tells Meta:
- that you viewed a page (
PageView), with the page’s address, including any campaign tags or Facebook click id in the link you followed; - when a run of the Level 1 demo starts (
DemoStart) and when one reaches the finish (DemoComplete), with only the game’s name and the level number; - when you tap an App Store link (
AppStoreClick), with the game’s name and where the link was: the homepage, the demo page, or the screen after a finish or a knockout. This counts a tap, not an install.
As with anything a page loads from Meta, your browser also sends Meta its usual technical details, such as your IP address and browser type, and the pixel keeps a few things on this site: cookies (_fbp, and _fbc when you arrive from a Facebook ad) and, in your browser’s storage, the last outside site that referred you. Meta may link this to a Facebook or Instagram account you are logged in to, and uses it under its own Privacy Policy. We never send Meta your name, email address, anything you type, or your demo progress or saves. Without JavaScript nothing is sent to Meta: the site has no image “fallback” pixel.
Your choice is shown here when JavaScript is on.
“Don’t allow” stops the pixel on this site at once and deletes what it kept here. Your choice is kept in this browser only. To manage how Meta uses ad data it already has, use your Facebook or Instagram ad settings.
The demo
The demo runs entirely in your browser. Your runs, times and progress are kept in memory only and disappear when you leave the page; they do not carry over to the app. The only thing the demo remembers is whether you muted it, kept in your browser’s storage, beside your choice about the Meta Pixel.
The demo does not send gameplay analytics, and it has no account, shop or purchases.
